MY AU PAIR IN AMERICA JOURNEY
Being an au pair has been a wonderful journey. I’ve always loved to travel, and coming to USA in order to be part of this program has given me more opportunities to travel around and to get to know the places I wanted to visit.
CHOICES
I chose this program because it offered me a long-term exchange, hands-on childcare experience and the safety and comfort of a home and a second family (something that made my parents very relieved). Being able to attend classes at a real American college is another plus of this cultural exchange program.
CLUSTER
To be part of a cluster is amazing: I have met people from different parts of the world and making new friends is always great. Every cluster meeting here pretty much means that there is a new au pair joining the group who will share her Au Pair in America experience – we’re always having a blast.
CHANCES
I get the chance to improve my English on an every day basis with my host kids, which is very helpful. Taking English classes is another way to work on my English skills and knowing that I have the support of my host parents to do so is something that I am very grateful for.
Seeing my host kids grow up is another really beautiful thing that you only get to experience as an au pair. I know I am making a difference in someone else`s life by doing my best to help them to become responsible, globally aware and just generally better kids is a great feeling. I truly believe that paying special attention to our kids’ education today is what eventually leads to a better tomorrow.
CHERISHING EVERY MOMENT
So far, my favorite part of being an au pair was when I got to see my youngest host kid for the first time and she came running towards me with a big smile on her face. She hugged me and gave me a drawing that she had made at school for me that very moring. And when I got into my room, a whole bag with welcome treats was waiting for me, but the nicest thing was the card on my bed that said: “Welcome to your next Adventure”. My oldest host kid wrote it for me and drew on it, it was all very sweet.
YOUR CHANCE
All these memories make a nice list of reasons why you should definitely consider becoming an Au Pair in America, as nothing compares to how much you will grow during an exchange program. I have always been a very responsible person, but I am even more mature now, and I have grown in many different ways as a person. Living one year away from your family and friends can be a little hard at times, but it’s nothing you can’t handle.
This one-year experience offers greater benefits as well as insights about yourself, others and the world we live in than I would have imagined.
Challenge yourself and embrace this wonderful experience. You will have amazing memories to take home and carry with you forever. And when you return home, you will able to make a difference anywhere you go.
