Au Pair Buddy Of The Month | Chelsea & Johanna

by Au Pair in America

Meet this month’s Au Pair Buddies of the Month: Chelsea from South Africa & Johanna from Germany!

CHELSEA | NOMINATOR | SOUTH AFRICA

My Au Pair Buddy is Johanna. She’s from Germany and I (Chelsea) am from South Africa.

We met on the 4th of July in 2015, when I first started my Au Pair year. From the moment we met, we clicked, and I wondered how I had lived my life without her before. We both lived in DC and often spent our weekends together exploring or just relaxing after a long week.

Since  being Au Pairs, Johanna has visited me in South Africa and I have visited her in Germany. She is family now and not a day goes by where we don’t speak or FaceTime. I am currently a return Au Pair based in New York City, and Johanna is in college at the University of San Diego. I can’t wait to visit her in June (yay!).

Thank you, Au Pair in America, for giving me the opportunity to meet the best person ever – I am forever grateful for the life long friends I have made through this program.

JOHANNA | NOMINEE | GERMANY

Chelsea showed me that your soulmate doesn’t have to be a significant other, but that your soulmate can also be your best friend.

When we met, we instantly clicked and I don’t know what I would do without her unwavering support. She’s my number one cheerleader and gives the best advice.

Even though we’re usually at least an ocean apart, our friendship never wavers. We’ve managed to see each other at least once a year since I left DC in 2016, and I am eternally grateful that I get to call her family. I can’t wait for her to visit me in San Diego and for me to see her in NYC.

Being an Au Pair not only fulfilled me because of my work with children, but also because I got to meet the most amazing people and find my soulmate.
