July 4th, known as Independence Day in the US, commemorates the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 1776 🇺🇸
On this day, Americans usually celebrate together with their friends and families. They dress up in red, white and blue, and go to the beach, meet up in someone’s backyard or the swimming pool. Sometimes they enjoy a BBQ, good music, company and watch the famous fireworks 😍. As an Au Pair, this holiday will also be part of your experience! Maybe you will spend the day with your friends, or maybe your host family will ask you to come with them to a 4th of July party 🎉.
Last year, I met some of my friends, and we had a BBQ at my friends’ house, then train into New York City 🗽. There, we met more friends, had a few drinks and in the evening we watched – the very impressive – Macy’s 4th of July fireworks near Brooklyn Bridge. It was definitely an evening I will never forget – everybody was so happy and celebrated together! 🎈
Due to the current pandemic, this year’s 4th of July celebrations will be slightly different. Events and parties are restricted, and there won’t be any fireworks in NYC this year. But, we’ve decided we can still make the most out of it! Me and my friends will celebrate in my host family’s backyard, have a BBQ, listen to music, play a few games and just enjoy the day – socially distant of course! Who knows, maybe we’ll be able to see one or two fireworks as well 🎆
What are your 4th of July plans this year? 🎊
Some of you, understandably, might not want to go big with your celebrations. Some of you might still find a way to take on this American Tradition, and get into the party spirit in your own way! Whatever you decide to do, make sure you have fun, but stay safe! ❤️
