Mariana | Share Your Culture, Share The Love

by Au Pair in America

One of many perks of being an Au Pair in America is that you get to share your own culture whilst immersing yourself in an entirely new one. If one of our au pairs is clearly living by that policy, it’s Brazilian au pair Mariana!

Bringing some Brazilian culture to beautiful San Francisco 😊

Hello everyone! My name is Mariana and I’m from Brazil and I would like to share my Au Pair in America experience with you! When I first applied to the au pair program, I just wanted to improve my English. But over the past few months, I’ve realised that this au pair program is also an amazing opportunity to improve and grow as a person! I just love to be around kids, because they see the world in a completely different way – a good way!

Stay curious!

My host family is awesome! When I first met them, I immediately knew it that I would have a great time here. The kids always manage to make my day. They never get tired of bringing me closer to the American culture. It’s amazing how we can love them like they’re our own, like we’re part of their real family, isn’t it?

SHARING IS CARING

In love with America! Mariana proudly carrying the American flag.

In love with America!

My host family and I have been teaching each other valuable things about both our cultures whenever we can. I love to cook Brazilian dishes for them, and I show them the type of music and sports that are common in Brazil. I celebrate some of our holidays from back home with them, and even teach them my native language every now and then. At the same time, they are sharing their culture with me by introducing me to typical American food and by letting me be part of their holiday celebrations. They take their time to explain to me what holidays they’re celebrating, how they’re celebrating them, and why they’re celebrating them.

Representing Brazil in the USA!

I have been traveling a lot. It’s one of my favourite things to do here, because since this is how I get to know new places and new people. I’m in love with America! My host family and I live in Michigan. The people here are really polite and friendly. They are always trying to help you out when they see that you’re struggling with something. I love this part because it makes me feel so welcome and safe wherever I go.

JUST DO IT!

Let me encourage all of you out there to become an Au Pair in America. My experience with this program has been great. They’re wonderful, as I’ve always had the kind of support that I needed from them. My local community counselor is really amazing. I can’t seem to find the right words to describe how awesome she is! She is always available and ready to help us no matters what. Our cluster meetings are so fun. And she always takes shares plenty of good tips and tricks and general advice with us to make our experience unforgettable.

It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the USA first-hand, and about yourself as well. And I can tell you from my personal experience that Au Pair in America will do their best to make your American dream come true!
