Carrie | Concerts And Dream Holidays

by Au Pair in America au-pair

Four months into her Au Pair in America year, Carrie is back with an update on what she’s been up to recently… warning it includes crystal blue water, breath-taking views and is guaranteed to make you want to jump on a plane asap!

Hi Guys!

September was a crazy, hectic and non-stop month and I have a lot to fill you in on, so sit tight. During September, I had a couple of things happening, I went to my first concert in NYC at the Radio City Music Hall and had my first girls trip to the Bahamas.

I am a big fan of R&B and hip hop music and have been a fan of Bryson Tiller for a few years now. I remember he was doing a tour in the UK earlier this year with The Weeknd and I wasn’t able to go because it was in London and I lived in Northern Ireland. So, when I arrived here and found out he was doing a US tour I had to get a ticket. I was unsure if anyone else I knew actually listened to him but one of my friends was a fan of him too and thus I had my concert buddy and immediately felt SO excited! The concert was at the Radio City Music Hall which is such an unbelievable venue. It’s so beautiful and grand and has the old-school lighting outside with a huge sign on the side of the building saying which concerts were on. Instantly I thought ‘yassss, I am at a concert in New York… this is amazing!’. Never did I imagine that I would end up being here and getting to experience all of this. After 4 months of being here, it was still surreal.

The night was everything I expected and more! He had amazing support acts and brought out two surprise special guests. The best part of the whole night was of course, Bryson himself. There was a really happy, chilled out vibe in the whole place, everyone was there for the enjoyment of the evening and nothing else. One thing I will say is that the drinks were crazy expensive, but I was at this famous concert venue and had to try their strawberry lemonade cocktail (it was unreal but $15 for a small cup… eek).

Also in September, I went on a girls’ trip to somewhere I had dreamed of going to but never thought I’d have the opportunity to actually visit! I went to Nassau, Bahamas for five days with two other au pairs from the UK… one I actually knew from England because we went to university together and the other girl I met whilst being in America. It’s a funny story actually because whist I was applying to become an Au Pair in America, I would look up au pair stories through Instagram to follow their stories and I came across this girl over a year ago. I followed her account when we didn’t know each other and now we’re friends and going on holiday together! It really is a very small world.

Right before we were due to depart for our trip the disastrous storms were hitting the Bahamian Islands and we weren’t even sure if we would be able to fly because of the weather. We flew to Charlotte then got our connecting flight to Nassau and when we arrived everything was unreal. The clear blue skies, white sandy beaches, glistening blue sea, multi-colored houses (some of which were boarded up as precaution for the storms) and the friendly locals of the area. We got a taxi from right outside the airport and as he was driving us to our accommodation he gave us a bit of history about the island which was really interesting.

We got to our accommodation and it was so nice. A small blue house on a quiet street and about a 15-minute walk away from downtown Nassau or we could get the bus which was just around the corner, the buses will literally stop anywhere for you if you make it clear to the driver that you want to get on.

During our trip, we visited the famous Senor Frog bar and restaurant which was a lot of fun during the day as people were visiting from the cruise ships which were docked nearby. The view from the restaurant was simply breath-taking. We also visited Paradise Island, although because of the stormy weather nearby, the water was very strong and choppy so we avoided going in too far as the waves were crashing high. However, the sunbathing conditions were perfect!

We also went on a day trip to Blue Lagoon Island and I cannot even put into words how perfect it was. Arriving here was when I really felt like we were in Paradise. We got a boat taxi from Nassau to the island which took around 20 minutes. Our tickets included our transport to and from the island, lunch, use of the activities they had (inflatable water park, life jackets, rubber dinghies, tubes etc.). We arrived at 8:30am and left after 4pm…. my only mistake was not packing sun cream because I got SO badly burnt this day. All in all, this was 100% my favourite part of the whole trip to the Bahamas.

If you’re thinking of visiting the Bahamas during your time as an au pair in the USA, I would totally recommend going for five days. It felt that the perfect amount of time to explore the islands and see everything we wanted to see.

I shall be writing another post about my October month soon and how we’ve been getting ready for Halloween and the Fall season. I hope you’ve enjoyed this blog post and I look forward to sharing everything else I have coming up in the next couple of months – it’s going to be busy but I’m loving it.

Carrie
