This International Women’s Day, we took the opportunity to reflect on the journeys of the young women in our program—women who have gained independence and built confidence. Through their experiences as au pairs, they have learned important life skills and shaped their futures in ways they never imagined.

International Women’s Day – Summer from Canada: Choosing Herself
Before joining the program, Summer realised there were areas of her life she wanted to improve—especially when it came to making choices for herself.
“I’ve often been a people pleaser my whole life, so the opportunity to go somewhere and choose something that was strictly for me was really valuable.”
Through her experience as an au pair, Summer learned how to create good habits, establish routines, and manage responsibilities effectively. Caring for five children required her to be organised and adaptable, helping her develop strong time management and problem-solving skills.
“I think future-wise, I will take a lot of the lessons that I learned from learning how to create good habits in my life. Especially after taking care of five kids, you learn how to create a good routine, create a good schedule for the future.”
Looking ahead, Summer feels more open to new opportunities and confident in her ability to take on challenges.

International Women’s Day – Olivia from Canada: Strengthening a Passion for Childcare
For Olivia, becoming an au pair confirmed what she had always thought—working with children was the right path for her. The experience only increased her passion for childcare and gave her an opportunity to nurture and support her host children’s development.
“After participating in this program, it really solidified that this is the area I thrive in. I feel like I would do this for the rest of my life—working with kids, making meaningful connections, and contributing to their success.”
Beyond childcare, Olivia also embraced the cultural exchange aspect of the program, finding ways to share parts of her own life with the children she cared for. The connections she built will last long after her time as an au pair, making her experience even more meaningful.

International Women’s Day – Federica from Italy: Gaining Language Skills and Travel Experience
For Federica, the au pair experience was an opportunity to combine her passion for travel with her goal of improving her English. Living abroad not only improved her language skills but also gave her a new perspective on different cultures and ways of life.
“Living in a different country helped me improve my English, which has now allowed me to find work in the tourism industry.”
Her time as an au pair gave her the confidence to navigate new environments, meet people from around the world, and gain valuable skills for her future career. The experience opened doors for her in the tourism sector, where she now applies the skills she developed while living abroad.

A Program That Creates Opportunities
The experiences of Summer, Olivia, and Federica shows how being an au pair can help young women grow both personally and professionally. Each of them took on new challenges, adapted to different environments, and gained skills that will benefit them in the future.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we recognise the value of opportunities that encourage independence, learning, and cultural exchange. We are proud of all the au pairs who have embraced this experience and look forward to seeing how they continue to grow.
